Biography

I am a researcher, academic and creative writer living in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. I have taught, lectured and marked in Literary Studies, Children’s Literature, Gender and Sexuality Studies and Education units at Deakin University since 2014. I completed my PhD at Deakin University in 2017. My PhD research was published as The Government of Disability in Dystopian Children’s Texts in 2024.

I am passionate about my research which focuses on disability in media and culture. I am deeply interested in how images and discourses of disability circulate in media and culture, and how disability can transform normative understandings of society, the body, relationships and the world.

I am also a member of the editorial collective of Lilith: A Feminist History Journal.

Outside of academia, I am a board member of Q-Lit, Victoria’s premier queer literature festival, and am the lead convener of our Writer’s Groups across Victoria. I write poetry and fiction about queerness, the environment and academia. I like to spend my time reading, gardening and hanging out with my dog, Bandit.
